In 2002, the institution was reorganized as an affiliate of the National Center for the Traditional Arts under the name of “Research Center for Chinese Music”.
In 2008, as a part of a larger governmental reorganization, the institution was again renamed as “Taiwan Music Center”; in May 2012, it adopts the current name of “Taiwan Music Institute”; and in March 2017, Taiwan Music Institute officially became part of the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center. Taiwan Music Institute has been active in the preservation, promotion and research of Taiwan’s music history through a wide variety of performances, talent cultivation projects, innovative undertakings and resource sharing endeavors. For the Institute, this is where Taiwanese music takes root!
